West Coast Travels

As promised earlier this week, I'm back to share some of the exciting details from my recent trip to California with my family. I couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather...a wonderful departure from the sweltering temps in the Midwest last week. Low humidity (my hair appreciates this), barely any bugs and consistent, comfortable weather...I think I understand why so many people flock to California.

We stayed at the Harvest Inn in St. Helena, which is located right next to Napa Valley. The grounds of the inn were absolutely gorgeous. Every inch was landscaped perfectly with surrounding views of the mountains and neighboring vineyards.

Obviously a major tourist attraction for Napa is the massive amount of wineries that populate the area. We visited two wineries; Domaine Carneros in Napa and Reverie in Calistoga. Both were very different experiences, but enjoyable in their own way. Domaine Carneros only produces sparkling wines and provided an educational tour with a larger group. Reverie produces a wider range of wines, while the tasting was more informal and conversational. As a Napa newbie, I really enjoyed both tours and the opportunity to sample a variety of wines.

We also took a day trip to San Francisco for more touristy activities. Bucket list check offs:

Golden Gate Bridge - check.
Alcatraz - check.
Fisherman's Wharf - check.
Cable car ride - check.

Overall, the trip was a success and it was great to spend time with my parents outside of the Midwest. Check out some of my favorite photos below :)
